Chapter 01

Kolkata Beginnings

Sayan Dutta was born in 2005 in Beldanga, Murshidabad — a small town in West Bengal, far from the tech hubs and engineering colleges that dominate the career dreams of most Indian students. Growing up in a Bengali household in Murshidabad, he was surrounded by a quieter life — no startup ecosystem, no coding bootcamps nearby, no senior to look up to who had cracked JEE or built a product.

From early childhood, Sayan showed a particular kind of attention — not to textbooks, not to sports, not to the stage — but to how things worked underneath. He existed, quietly, in the middle rows of every classroom in Beldanga — average marks, no trophies — watching, thinking, and waiting for something that felt like his.

That something arrived in 2020. While the pandemic locked the world indoors and most students filled the time with entertainment, Sayan opened a laptop and started learning to code. No structured course. No mentorship. Just curiosity, free time, and the stubborn refusal to waste it. He taught himself programming basics, moved through C to Python, broke things, fixed them, and broke them again — in a loop that became a habit and then a way of life.

💻
2020 — Where it started: While the world paused, Sayan Dutta pressed play. The pandemic gave him uninterrupted time and he used every hour of it to learn, build, and iterate. Most of his classmates enjoyed the break. He treated it as a head start.

Most students used the pandemic as a break. He used it as a runway.

Chapter 02

School Years & The JEE Miss

Sayan completed his Higher Secondary (Class 12) examinations in 2023 from Beldanga. With the results in hand, the next step — like for every science student in West Bengal — was engineering entrance exams. He prepared for JEE alongside his studies, but the year he was supposed to appear, circumstances meant he couldn't sit for the examination.

The dream of IIT was real — he had heard about the greatness of institutions like IIT Kharagpur growing up, described simply as "one of the greatest technical colleges in the country." That was enough to plant a compass needle. He just knew it was the kind of place built for people who thought the way he did.

📌
2023 — The pivot decision: After completing HS and missing the JEE window, Sayan made a calculated choice. Rather than dropping a full year in Beldanga, he moved to Kolkata — the city, the opportunities, the pace — and enrolled in a Diploma in Engineering college there. Kolkata was not the destination. It was the bridge.

Moving from a small town in Murshidabad to Kolkata was itself a significant step. A new city, a new environment, more exposure to people building things. He enrolled in the Diploma programme and continued JEE preparation in parallel — studying by day, coding in the evenings, learning the discipline of doing two hard things at once.

During the Diploma years in Kolkata, the coding habit he had built during the 2020 pandemic compounded fast. With real CS subjects to study formally and a city full of resources around him, he went from basics to building functional projects. Every weekend was a build session. Every problem encountered in class became a side project. The quiet, self-directed builder from Beldanga was becoming an engineer.

Chapter 03

IIT Patna — The Arrival

The JEE result came. Sayan Dutta had qualified. In 2025, he was admitted to the BS-MS programme in Computer Science & Data Analytics at the Indian Institute of Technology Patna — one of the newer IITs, but an institution of genuine rigour with world-class faculty, strong research culture, and a student body of sharp, driven people.

For a kid from Beldanga, Murshidabad — who started coding alone during a pandemic, moved cities for a Diploma, and never had a straight path — this was proof that the approach had been right all along. From small-town West Bengal to an IIT. No shortcuts. No drop year drama. Just consistent, quiet work over five years.

2020
Coding begins — pandemic self-learning
While classmates enjoyed lockdown, Sayan taught himself programming from scratch. C, Python, basic web. The habit that changed everything started here, in Beldanga, alone.
2023
HS completed · Moved to Kolkata for Diploma in Engineering
Completed Higher Secondary in Beldanga. Moved to Kolkata — a new city, new energy. Enrolled in Diploma in Engineering while continuing JEE preparation in parallel.
2023–2025
Diploma years — building in Kolkata
Formal CS study plus self-directed projects. Built the Pathology Admin Panel — first real-world system used by non-technical people. Coding habit compounded fast in the city environment.

Chapter 04

The Projects That Defined Him

Sayan Dutta is not the kind of engineer who waits to be assigned a project. Every significant piece of work he has built emerged from a real problem he personally encountered — or watched others struggle with. His portfolio reads less like a resume and more like a log of frustrations turned into solutions.

In 2025, observing the AI landscape closely, Sayan noticed something that most builders were ignoring: there were already over 2,000 AI models available, and virtually all of them were haemorrhaging money on marketing. Building another general-purpose AI wasn't the answer. The real gap was different — privacy, locality, and trust. Students sharing sensitive academic work with cloud AI services. Data leaving devices. No control. He decided to build something different: a privacy-first, locally-run AI designed specifically for CS education.

⚠️
Blix.ai — the real story: "Blix.ai" is currently a working nickname for the project. The actual product name has not yet been released publicly. When v1 was near-ready, Sayan discovered another product already using the same name — so v1 launch was postponed. The project continues under the nickname while the real name is being finalised. Version 2, with significantly improved features, is targeted for 2027.
Chapter 05

Beyond the Code

Sayan Dutta's identity extends beyond engineering. He is a freelance developer who takes on AI and full-stack projects for clients. He is a content creator and Instagram influencer in the tech space, translating complex technical ideas into formats that resonate with students and early-career developers. And he is a hackathon competitor who has reached national finals, learning through the specific pressure of building something real in a constrained window.

What Sayan is currently managing simultaneously in 2025: 2 college academic programmes, 3 active projects with different teams, and 1 paid freelance project — all while being a first-year IIT student. This is not multitasking. It is a operating system built over five years of disciplined parallel work.

Chapter 07

Where He's Going

Sayan Dutta is 20 years old and in his first year at IIT Patna. He is very early in what is clearly going to be a long career at the intersection of AI, engineering, and impact. His goals are ambitious but grounded in the same philosophy that got him here: build real things, solve real problems, keep going.

01
Blix.ai v2 — by 2027 — The privacy-first local AI project is being rebuilt with a new official name (to be announced). Version 2 will feature multi-turn conversation memory, a significantly improved dataset, confidence-aware generation, and features not yet disclosed publicly. The goal remains: powerful AI that runs locally, respects privacy, and serves students who can't afford subscriptions.
02
Shipping the current pipeline — 3 active team projects and 1 paid freelance project are in progress right now. Each is at a different stage. Managing them alongside IIT academics is itself a project in time, energy, and communication.
03
Research in AI alignment — Exploring how to make language models more honest, more calibrated, and more useful in high-stakes educational and professional contexts. IIT Patna provides the academic structure to pursue this seriously.
04
Social impact through technology — Projects targeting education, governance, and healthcare. The belief that the best engineering solves problems that matter to people who cannot afford for those problems to remain unsolved.
05
Entrepreneurship — Building toward founding a tech venture. The goal is not just to ship code but to build organisations that outlast any single project. The conviction came early: products that help people are more valuable than products that impress investors.

The average kid from Beldanga is still in the room. He just built the room himself this time.
